The Council on Foreign Relations is a neoliberal think tank beloved by centrists from both US political parties. CFR is an extremely powerful group in Washington. When they speak, almost everyone listens.

And what do they have to say about our rapidly escalating climate crisis?

Well, they’ve just issued a new statement promoting a strategy they call “Climate Realism.”

First, they acknowledge that the 1.5C target is dead. In fact, they say we now should expect global warming to reach at least 3° by the end of this century, if not sooner.

Second, they argue for the rapid development of geoengineering strategies, such as solar radiation management, to combat accelerating climate change.

Third, they say *nothing* about moving away from the destructive growth-at-any-cost outlook and making a pivot toward degrowth and climate justice. Nothing at all.

That is unfortunate, but totally predictable — because CFR and their members are fully invested in capitalism, neoliberalism, and American imperialism. No crisis could possibly shake them free from that poisonous mindset.

So this is where we’re headed. Rather than change course, they’ll take us straight to hell.

Elon Musk’s xAI is running 35 methane gas burning turbines (enough for a small city) while only having a permit for 15 to power the Colossus supercomputer with over 100,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs in Tennessee. The Southern Environmental Law Center contends the generators are "illegal," yet they can keep running, reports The Guardian.

People in the know know what's coming.

🔴 Climate scientists know.

🔴 Top Wall Street financiers know.

🔴 Our "leaders" in business and government know.

Global warming *will* exceed 1.5°C above the pre-industrial average. Effectively it already has.

Any hope of staying below 2°C also appears to be lost. We are now heading toward a 3° world, if not higher.

Of course we should continue working hard to limit the catastrophic damage as much as possible. But you’re a fool if you’re not beginning at this point to prepare for the worst — because that's what's coming.
